Matrix SKUs are a powerful way to show multiple product sizes and colors to customers all on the same page.
Creating Matrix Parent and Child SKUs can look daunting, but breaking things down into manageable chunks and ensuring we have good product data will make the creation process simple.
As an example, we're going to create a new matrix SKU step by step; a skirt in three sizes and two colors.
Pre-start checklist:
1. Product data - Parent and Child SKUs, images and image paths, description content, and other product details.
2. FTP access to upload images
3. Admin user with permissions to create products, use import/export
Step 1: Create preliminary items
Before we can create a matrix parent SKU, we'll need to create the option classes we're going to use (color, size, material, etc.). We also want to upload images now so we can drop in image values right from product creation.
Step 2: Create Matrix Parent and Child SKUs
Now that we have the option classes created, we can proceed to create the actual matrix parent and child SKUs.
Step 3: Import/Export to update product details in bulk
The products have been created, so we can push product details like pricing, barcodes, and other misc. details via Import/Export in bulk, rather than update each child SKU one at a time.

Step 4: Storefront review
Once all product details have been added, the final step is to preview the product and make sure everything looks good. Check Color options to ensure that images switch out and the correct image sets have been assigned to each child SKU.
