Pulse Commerce recommends having three different image sizes for each product. Each image should be used for its proper purpose. The reason for that is to save bandwidth; thumbnail load speeds, a better user experience, and the zooming feature will contain proper resolution images, making the website look and perform better.
The three types of images are thumbnail, medium resolution, and high resolution.
- A thumbnail image is a very small picture of the item, usually used for product previews in the item list pages on your website.
- Medium resolution images are usually used for display with detailed product descriptions to give a user a good overview of what the item looks like.
- High-resolution images are used for Pulse Commerce's zooming feature. You will notice this image appear when the user hovers the mouse pointer over the image in the product description. High-resolution images are great for viewing small details on a particular product that are not as noticeable in the smaller images. High-resolution images should never be used for thumbnail images.
