What is a Merchant Account and how do I save money on credit card processing fees while signing up for one?

A Merchant Account is a special account that you need to have set up with a bank in order for you to be able to accept credit card transactions.

In addition to a Merchant Account, if you would like to charge credit cards for the orders placed by customers in real time, you will also need a Payment Gateway, which is an online system that automates this process. Without a Payment Gateway, you have to manually process the credit cards entered by the customers. This is much more time consuming and labor intensive.
