Warehouse management in Pulse Commerce helps you track where your inventory is stored, control order fulfillment, and maintain real-time visibility across all locations. Whether you operate from a single warehouse or manage multiple fulfillment centers, proper warehouse configuration ensures accurate stock levels and efficient delivery.
Single vs. Multi-Warehouse Operations
Single warehouse setups ship all orders from one location, offering simplicity in inventory tracking and fulfillment.
Multi-warehouse environments provide significant advantages:
- Reduced shipping times by fulfilling from locations closer to customers
- Lower shipping costs through optimized routing
- Inventory redundancy if one location runs out of stock or experiences an outage
- Intelligent order routing based on availability, proximity, or custom rules
Pulse Commerce with Cahoot automatically manages the added complexity of multi-location inventory tracking and fulfillment decisions.
How Warehouse Assignment Affects Orders:
- Product inventory assigned to specific warehouses affects available stock calculations
- The system determines fulfillment location based on warehouse availability and routing rules
- Each warehouse location tracks separate inventory quantities for the same product
Your primary warehouse location serves as the default shipping origin for orders and rate calculations.
To configure your primary shipping origin:
1Navigate to Settings > Ship Methods and Rates.
2Locate the Your Shipping Origin Address section.
3Verify the following information is accurate and complete:
- Street address (Street 1 and Street 2 if applicable)
- City
- State
- Zip Code
- Country
- Contact information
4Review any additional configurable settings specific to your shipping methods.
Additional warehouse locations cannot be added through the admin panel and must be configured by Pulse Commerce Support.

Can I add warehouse locations myself?
No, warehouse locations must be added by Pulse Commerce Support. Submit a support ticket with all required warehouse information to request a new location.
How does the system decide which warehouse to fulfill from?
Pulse Commerce with Cahoot uses intelligent routing based on warehouse availability, proximity to the customer, and any custom fulfillment rules you've configured. You can also designate preferred locations for specific products.
What happens if inventory runs out at one warehouse?
The system automatically routes orders to other warehouses with available inventory. This redundancy ensures orders can still be fulfilled even if one location is out of stock.
Can I transfer inventory between warehouses?
Yes, inventory transfers between warehouses are supported. Note that inventory in transit is not included in the available quantities displayed on product pages.
What is the "Zip City" warehouse location?
"Zip City" is a default warehouse location provided to all Pulse Commerce merchants for storing non-sellable inventory. Common uses include holding damaged goods, customer returns awaiting quality inspection, or items temporarily removed from sale. This location does not interfere with order fulfillment or daily operations. While it can be deleted upon request, we recommend keeping it as reinstating it later would require professional services.
Why must warehouse changes be submitted in writing?
Written requests ensure critical address and contact information is recorded accurately without typos or transcription errors. This prevents shipping and fulfillment issues caused by incorrect warehouse data.
Can I deactivate a warehouse temporarily?
Yes, contact Pulse Support to activate or deactivate warehouse locations as needed. Deactivated warehouses remain in the system but won't be used for order fulfillment.

Key Points About Location-Specific Adjustments:
