If you sell on marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, Walmart, or BigCommerce through Pulse Commerce's marketplace integrations, you must configure specific custom attributes to synchronize inventory, pricing, and product data between Pulse Commerce and your connected marketplace channels.
Understanding Marketplace Sync Behavior
When you enable the [Marketplace] Active attribute and set it to 1, Pulse Commerce will automatically sync both inventory quantities and pricing to that marketplace. The integration operates as a one-way push from Pulse Commerce to your marketplace platform.
What happens if sync fails: If you enable marketplace sync for a product that doesn't exist or isn't properly configured in the marketplace platform (e.g., a product set to "BigCommerce Active = 1" but not listed on your BigCommerce store), the inventory update will fail silently. Pulse Commerce will continue attempting to sync on its regular schedule, but no error notifications will be generated. The integration does not create, modify, or control product listings in the marketplace—it only updates inventory and pricing for products that already exist there.
Required Marketplace Attributes
Create these custom attributes at Products > Custom Product Attributes.
Then assign values to each SKU you want to list on your connected marketplaces. Replace "[Marketplace]" with the specific marketplace name (e.g., Amazon, eBay, Walmart, BigCommerce):
- Amazon Active
- BigCommerce Active
- eBay Active
- Walmart Active
| Attribute Name | Required? | Details |
| [Marketplace] Active | Required | Set to 1 to enable marketplace sync for this SKU. Both inventory and price will be synchronized to the marketplace automatically. Set to 0 or leave empty to exclude from marketplace sync. |
| [Marketplace] Quantity | Optional | Specify a custom quantity to push to marketplace. If not set, quantity from the Simple tab will be used. Useful for reserving inventory for other sales channels. |
| [Marketplace] Quantity Buffer | Optional | Add or subtract from available quantity before sending to marketplace. Use positive numbers to add inventory (e.g., +10) or negative numbers to reduce (e.g., -5). Helps prevent overselling across channels. |
| [Marketplace] Price | Optional | Specify a custom price for marketplace. If not set, Customer Price from the Simple tab will be used. Only applies when [Marketplace] Active = 1. |
| [Marketplace] SKU | Optional | Use a different SKU for the marketplace than what's in Pulse Commerce. Allows you to maintain existing marketplace SKUs without changing your internal SKU structure. |
Setup Workflow for Marketplace Integration
Step 1: Create the Attributes
Navigate to Products > Custom Product Attributes and create the required [Marketplace] Active attribute using the exact name shown in the table above (case-sensitive). Only create optional attributes if your business requires them.
Step 2: Assign to Products
For each SKU you want to sync to your marketplace:
1Open the product in Product Editor > Advanced tab > Edit Custom Product Attribute.
2Add [Marketplace] Active with value 1.
3Optionally add other marketplace attributes based on your needs.
Step 3: Bulk Update (Recommended)
For managing marketplace attributes across many SKUs, use Import/Export to update attribute values in bulk via CSV file.
1Navigate to Import/Export → Import → Product Custom Attributes Import
2Click Download Template and Download Legend
3Open the template in Excel or Google Sheets
Fill In Product Information
1Enter Product Name for each SKU (max 255 characters)
2Enter SKU - must match existing product SKU exactly
Add Marketplace Active Attribute
1In the column headers, enter the Custom Attribute name followed by "Active" (e.g., Amazon Active or BigCommerce Active)
2In the Custom Attribute Value column, enter: 1 (to enable) or 0 (to disable)
3Set Custom Attribute(SortOrder) to 1 (optional)
4Set Custom Attribute(Visible) to 0 (hidden from storefront)
Add Optional Marketplace Attributes
Add additional attributes as needed ([Marketplace] SKU, [Marketplace] Quantity, [Marketplace] Quantity Buffer, [Marketplace] Price). Each attribute requires its own row or column set.
Multiple Attributes Per SKU: To add multiple attributes to one product, either:
- Use multiple columns (Custom Attribute 1, Custom Attribute 2, etc.), OR
- Create multiple rows with the same SKU (one row per attribute)
Check the template structure to see which format your system uses.
Marketplace Integration Example Scenarios
Scenario 1: Standard Marketplace Sync
- [Marketplace] Active = 1
- All other attributes blank (uses default values from Simple tab)
- Result: SKU syncs to marketplace with standard inventory and price
Scenario 2: Marketplace-Specific Pricing
- [Marketplace] Active = 1
- [Marketplace] Price = 29.99
- Customer Price (Simple tab) = 24.99
- Result: Marketplace shows $29.99, your website shows $24.99
Scenario 3: Reserved Inventory for Other Channels
- [Marketplace] Active = 1
- Quantity (Simple tab) = 100
- [Marketplace] Quantity Buffer = -20
- Result: Marketplace receives 80 units, 20 reserved for other sales channels
Detailed Attribute Descriptions
[Marketplace] Active (REQUIRED for marketplace sync)
Attribute Name: [Marketplace] Active (e.g., Amazon Active, BigCommerce Active)
Attribute Value:
- 1 = Enable marketplace synchronization for this SKU (inventory and price will push to marketplace automatically)
- 0 = Disable marketplace synchronization for this SKU
Usage: Set to 1 for every product you want to sync to the marketplace. This is the master switch for marketplace integration.
[Marketplace] SKU (Optional - for SKU mapping)
Attribute Name: [Marketplace] SKU
Attribute Value: The SKU used in the marketplace platform
Usage: Use this if your Pulse Commerce SKU is different from your marketplace SKU. This allows you to maintain different SKUs in each system.
Example: Pulse SKU = "WIDGET-001", Marketplace SKU = "MKT-WIDGET-001"
[Marketplace] Quantity (Optional - override quantity)
Attribute Name: [Marketplace] Quantity
Attribute Value: Numeric value
Usage: Set a specific quantity to send to marketplace (overrides quantity from Simple Tab). Leave empty to use Pulse Commerce quantity.
Example: Stock 100 units in Pulse but only list 50 on marketplace
[Marketplace] Quantity Buffer (Optional - adjustment buffer)
Attribute Name: [Marketplace] Quantity Buffer
Attribute Value: Positive or negative numeric value
Usage: Add or subtract from Pulse quantity when syncing to marketplace. Useful for safety stock.
Examples:
-
-5= Send 5 fewer units than actual stock (safety buffer) -
10= Send 10 more units than actual stock
[Marketplace] Price (Optional - override pricing)
Attribute Name: [Marketplace] Price
Attribute Value: Numeric value (price amount)
Usage: Set a specific price for marketplace (overrides Customer Price from Simple Tab). Leave empty to use Pulse Commerce customer price.
Example: Sell for $29.99 in Pulse but $34.99 on marketplace
[Marketplace] Active = 1 for products you want on the marketplace. All other marketplace attributes are optional and override default values when set. Most merchants will only need the Active attribute for successful synchronization.
