Add meta tags to your website pages to improve how they appear in search engine results. Meta tags provide search engines with information about your page content and help control how your pages are displayed in search results.
Meta Tag Best Practices
Title Tags:
- Keep under 60 characters to avoid truncation in search results
- Include your most important keywords near the beginning
- Make each page's title unique
Meta Descriptions:
- Keep between 155-160 characters for optimal display in search results
- Write compelling copy that encourages clicks
- Include a call-to-action when appropriate
- Accurately describe the page content
Adding Meta Tags by Page Type
The process for adding meta tags varies depending on which type of page you're editing. Use the accordion below for your specific page type.
Use the Meta Tags Editor to manage meta tags for site-wide pages.
1Navigate to Content > Meta Tags Editor (SEO).
2Enter a description for the page in the meta name="description" content="" field.
3Click the Update button for the page you're editing.
Available Pages: Home Page, Contact Us, Company Info
Add meta tags to category pages through the Category Editor.
1Navigate to Products > Category Editor.
2Click the Edit link next to the category you want to update.
3Click the Intelligent SEO™ tab.
4Scroll down to the Meta Tags section.
5Enter a Title tag that describes the category page (appears in browser tabs and search results).
6Enter a description in the Meta Description field (155-160 characters recommended).
7Click Update.
Add meta tags to individual product pages through the Product Editor.
1Navigate to Products > Product Catalog Manager.
2Click the Edit link next to the product you want to update.
3Click the Intelligent SEO™ tab.
4Scroll down to the Meta Tags section.
5Enter a Title tag that describes the product (appears in browser tabs and search results).
6Enter a description in the Meta Description field (155-160 characters recommended).
7Click Update.
Note: You can add additional meta tags using the Enable Additional Meta Tags option if needed for advanced SEO requirements.
Add meta tags to custom pages through the Custom Pages Editor.
1Navigate to Content > Custom Pages Editor.
2Click the Edit link next to the custom page you want to update.
3Click the Intelligent SEO™ tab.
4Scroll down to the Meta Tags section.
5Enter a Title tag that describes the page (appears in browser tabs and search results).
6Enter a description in the Meta Description field (155-160 characters recommended).
7Click Update.
