Pulse Commerce supports modern web-safe animated image formats such as animated GIFs and animated WebP. These formats can be used in banners, homepage content, and custom pages to add lightweight motion or highlight key areas of the storefront.
Important: Adobe Flash (
.swf) is no longer supported. All major browsers permanently removed Flash support in 2021, and Flash files will no longer play on any storefront.Supported Animation Formats
- GIF — best for simple, lightweight looping animations
- Animated WebP — smoother animations with smaller file sizes compared to GIF
For best performance, use animations sparingly and compress files before uploading. Large or unoptimized GIF/WebP files can slow down page load times.
How to Add an Animated Image to Your Storefront
You can insert GIF or WebP animations into your storefront using the Home Page Editor, Custom Pages, or any WYSIWYG editor in Pulse Commerce.
- Go to the Content tab in the Pulse Commerce Admin.
- Open the Home Page Editor (or any page where you want to place the animation).
- Place your cursor in the WYSIWYG Editor where you want the animation to appear.
- Click the Image icon in the editor toolbar.

- In the Image Manager, upload or select your GIF or WebP file, then click Select.

- The animation will appear in the editor preview.

- Click Update to save your changes.
Best Practices for Animated Media
- Use optimized GIFs or WebP files — keep under 1 MB when possible.
- Use WebP instead of GIF when possible for smaller file sizes and smoother animation.
- Avoid uploading large, high-frame-rate animations—they can slow down pages.
- Do not upload Flash files; they will not display in any modern browser.
- Place animations strategically so they enhance rather than distract from key CTAs.
Tip: A subtle GIF or WebP animation can increase engagement, but overly large or frequent animations may negatively impact page speed and conversions.
