Collect additional information from customers during checkout using the Checkout Survey Manager on your Pulse Commerce storefront. Use surveys to gather data like birthdays, referral sources, or require customers to accept terms and conditions before completing their purchase.
The Checkout Survey Manager supports:
- Text box answers or drop-down answers.
- Required or optional answers.
- Help links or inline help text.
Configuring Checkout Survey Questions
Create and manage survey questions that appear during the checkout process.
1Navigate to Marketing > Checkout Survey Manager.
2In the Checkout Survey Question (New) section, enter your question in the Question field.
Example: "Please provide us with your date of birth" or "How did you hear about us?"
3Configure the question settings:
- Visible: Check this box to display the question during checkout
- Required: Check this box to make the question mandatory
- Sort Order: Set the display order if you have multiple questions
- Discount Name: Optionally associate the question with a specific discount code
4Optionally, add a Description that will appear in a popup to provide additional context to customers.
5Click Update.
The question will appear in the List of Checkout Survey Questions section.
By default, survey questions display as text boxes where customers can type free-form responses. You can restrict responses to a dropdown list of pre-defined options.
1In the List of Checkout Survey Questions section, click Edit Options next to the question.
2In the Add Option section, enter each option in the Question Option field.
3Set the Sort Order to control the display order in the dropdown.
4Click Add for each option.
5Click Close when finished.
Example: For "How did you hear about us?" you might add options like: Google, Facebook, Friend Referral, Email Newsletter.
Customize the heading text that appears above your survey questions on the storefront.
1At the top of the Checkout Survey Manager page, enter your heading text in the Checkout Survey Heading in the Store Front field.
Example: "Before you complete your order"
2Click Update.
Viewing and Exporting Survey Responses
Export customer survey responses to analyze the data collected during checkout.
1Navigate to Data Import and Export > Export.
2Select Checkout Survey Export.
3Filter the data by specific criteria (optional):
- Date Range: Specify a start and end date
- Order Status: Filter by order status
- SKUs: Include specific products
4Click Generate Export File.
5Click Download to save the CSV file to your computer.
6Open the CSV file in Excel or another spreadsheet program to view the survey responses.
Common Use Cases
Requiring Terms & Conditions Acceptance:
- Create a required question: "I agree to the Terms & Conditions"
- Add options: "Yes, I agree" (only option forces acceptance)
Collecting Customer Birthdays:
- Create an optional question: "What is your birthday?"
- Leave as text box for customers to enter the date
- Export data for birthday email campaigns
Tracking Referral Sources:
- Create a question: "How did you hear about us?"
- Add dropdown options: Google, Facebook, Friend, Email, Other
- Export data to analyze marketing channel effectiveness
